Dear Carolina Hurricanes, [17 Jun 2006|10:56pm]

[ mood | Absolutely enraged ]

Next time, can you please make sure to step off the plane?  Because the guys that I saw on the ice tonight were not the same group of guys that I watched beat some of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

For some reason there was no traffic in front of the opposing goalie whatsoever, yet Edmonton always seemed to have two guys waiting for the puck on the doorstep.

Erik Cole was a welcome addition to the lineup, but he just didn't seem to click.  It's definitely because he hadn't played in so long, but he did look better than the majority of the guys on the ice.

And what's with all the stupid penalties?  Too many men on the ice, not once, but twice?  Unacceptable.

When we're on the PK, let's challenge the offense a little bit.  How's that sound?

Deeply concerned,
A loyal fan

So, apart from signing Cory Stillman, does it look like the 'Canes are going to sign anyone else? I was looking at their website and it doesn't have much on it. I keep seeing all these huge names get shipped everywhere else. I understand that we're not a huge market like a Philly or Detroit, but come on! The playing field has been level-ed!

I figured there should be a Lowell Lock Monsters community since many of our players have been assigned there until a new CBA is formed.

Results, news, training camp information, all that good stuff is welcomed. Please join. Thank you :)

Erik Cole Television Appearance!!Collapse )

Goalie to begin his fourth professional season
RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 6, 2004) – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Rob Zepp on a one-year contract. As per club policy, no other terms were announced.
“Rob is a good, young goaltender who brings depth to our system,” said Karmanos. “He was a big part of the Everblades’ Eastern Conference championship and run to the Kelly Cup finals.”

In 2003-04, Zepp (6’ 1”, 190 lbs) posted a 14-13-7 record and a 2.95 goals-against average in 35 games with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. He recorded an 8-3 record and a 2.72 goals-against average in 12 games during Florida’s run to the Kelly Cup finals which included the team’s first Eastern Conference championship.

The Hurricanes selected Zepp in the fourth round, 110th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The 22 year-old Newmarket, Ont., native has posted a 40-31-16 regular-season record and a 2.95 goals-against average in 89 regular-season games in three seasons with Florida. Zepp has also posted a 1-4-2 reocrd in seven American Hockey League games with Lowell.

Jimmy V Hurricanes Story [29 Aug 2004|04:53pm]

x-posted to my journal + luckyyjennyy

So Jimmy V was pretty fun, everything was actually really great aside from the morning heat and all that damn trekking through ten billion miles of golf course. And boy did nichole and I trek! I doubt there was a hole or walk way anywhere in "the joint" (haha) that we didnt hit! haha we were completly lost for the first 15 minutes walking around trying to find "Batesey"..

We started out on hole three with Bates Battaglia who is soooo hot by the way! I mean damn homie, I wanted to tap it right there on the course! Watching him golf was tres fun too bc well.. he couldn't. He kept hitting his ball into the woods or like only hitting it four feet haha. See thats what you get Batsey for wearing flip flops while golfing! Nichole and I got pictures and autographs and he was so nice! I hope he settles down here and opens his restaurant... orrrr plays with the 'canes again, BBC LINE REUNION!! woot woot

We walked around a bit and found Glen Wesley (who we talked to, no pics, good golfer) We just stayed at the whole and then Kevyn Adams came and he was sooo nice and sooo adorable! He grew his hair out so he had cute blonde curls poking out of the bottom of his hat. He was a very good golfer and was super adorable. Hell I'm just excited I got to touch his back... jesus I love his back..oooh daddy...

After Kevyn left Jesse Boulerice came and he too was wearing flip flops, the only thing was he was actually able to hit well. He apparently "forgot" his shoes.. He also grew his hair out so he had little curls too. I was nervous about meeting him bc of the whole fiasco last year, but thank god he forgot who Nichole and I were and smiled and took pics with us.

Jeff Daniels, always a pleasure.

We booked it over to "The Highlands" and met my baby daddy aka Erik Cole who was w o n d e r f u l as usual :) He was super late to the hole bc everyone was prowling around that area looking for him and he kept stopping to sign things for kids.. god I love him! Haha then we haaaaaaauleeed ass over the whole grounds to find Jeff O'Neill who as per usual had a beer in his golf cart (haha typical) awww his little bucket hat.. But yea we followed him over to a hole that was completly devoid of fans and got pictures and all that jazz.

Damnit Tripp Tracy where the hell were you today!! We looked and we looked and we couldnt find you anywhere!!

So fun day, fun day. Must do it again sometime except with pants, and water bottles, and a golfcart full of naked/half naked Hurricanes... oooh that does sound like fun! Can't wait for next year!

Anyone else have a fun Jimmy V story?

The Draft was awesome! We left the house a little after eight o'clock. We stopped by McDonald's on the way to the RBC Center. Of course, it was raining this morning. It did clear up though, and the rain ruined nothing. We[my little sister and I] got there at about nine o'clock. First we went to The Eye. I bought one of the red draft shirts and a program. Before getting in line for autographs, we checked out all of the trophies, and the Stanley Cup(which I got a great picture of). Besides the Cup, it was really cool to see the Vezina Trophy. I'm a huge goalie fan. We stopped by the hockey cards. I bought myself three cards: Justin Williams, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Eric Staal. I picked up the two free magazines as well.

Afterwords, we got in line for the autograph session. The wait to get Erik Cole, Glen Wesley, and Peter Laviolette's autograph was pretty long. We were in line for almost an hour. I got them to sign my draft shirt. We quickly went over to the Cam Ward, Kevin McCarthy, and Jeff Daniels signing. The line wasn't as long. Most people were still stuck in the other line. All of this was worth the wait though.

When we got all of our autographs it was 11 o'clock, so we went to find some seats. I started out sitting in section 333, but then moved closer to the stage. I was to the right of the floor where all the teams' tables were setup. To no ones surprise, Alexander Ovechkin was selected number one overall by the Washington Capitals. I was close to the fans chanting, "Ovechkin." :) Lucky Washington. I got to meet Ovechkin; I'll tell you more about that later on.

When Gary Bettman announced there was a trade, it was really exciting-especially when I found out the 'Canes were involved. Welcome to the 'Canes, Andrew Ladd!!!! I'm really happy about getting Ladd. The trade was pretty unexpected. Thank God it turned out to be a good surprise. Sometimes JR does some really stupid stuff. I watched the entire first round. Watching the draft on tv is nice, but actually being there is awesome. I mean, I was in the same building as Wayne Gretzky!

I met up with my little sister when the first round ended, and we got in line for the second autograph session. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Eric Staal's autograph. I'm kind of disappointed about that, but I did get Andrew Ladd and Cam Ward's signature. Yeah, I did get Cam Ward's twice. Haha. I had promised someone that I would get Cam Ward's autograph for her and you can only get one thing signed when you go through the line, so that is why. I will have to get Eric Staal's autograph at a practice or something.

Oh, but while we were in line(for forever) for the autographs, I saw Alexander Ovechkin. I went over there to get his autograph, but he didn't have a pen and stupid me didn't either(no one would lend me a pen either). I was so disappointed, but he was really nice about it. He apologized and actually gave me a hug. I don't know why I didn't think to ask to get a picture with him. Here's the annoying part, when I found my sister in the line, I was fiddling through my purse and saw that I had something he could have signed my program with. I was ticked. It's one of those moments where you feel pretty stupid.

Later on, my sister and I were walking around the RBC and saw Ovechkin. We caught up with him outside and this time I got his autograph. He signed my program. Washington is getting a really nice guy(not to mention a fantastic hockey player). He was really great to all of the fans.

For the rest of the time, we just hung out outside and listened to the band. I'm not going to the Draft tomorrow, I have to work, but today was awesome. I'm hoping that we will get the All-Star game sometime soon. my draft picturesCollapse )

Welcome to the Hurricanes, Gerber! [18 Jun 2004|08:20pm]

x-posted to carolinacanes

Gerber led all NHL goaltenders in goals-against average (1.77) and save percentage (.936) for the 2003 calendar year, the best marks in those two categories in a calendar year since Dominik Hasek recorded a 1.76 goals-against average and .943 save percentage for Buffalo in 1998. His save percentage in 2003 was the second-highest for a calendar year since 1990, and his GAA ranked third since 1990.

Not bad, not bad at all. I must say, I wasn't expecting this trade, but it sounds like it was a good one. What do you guys think?

So, as we all know by now, the Tampa Bay Lightning are the Stanley Cup Champs. Congrats to Andreychuk and the Bolts! I will admit that I was not cheering for them, but what can you do. To make this 'Canes related, it would have been awesome to see Marty Gelinas win the Stanley Cup.

So, we have a bittersweet ending to this hockey season.

Don't forget, not like you would, that the Draft is coming up! There's a whole page on the 'Canes website dedicated to the Draft. If you haven't already, be sure to check it out.
